NFL draft season is upon us! My favorite time of year and quite honestly the time where I find the most joy. Starting off this offseason I have to cover a prospect that I have coveted to breakdown for years. So without any further ado, the 2021 draft breakdowns from yours truly have started and we begin with Travis Etienne.

Expected 40 time: Low 4.4, if exact measurement 4.40
College production: Throughout his career Etienne totaled 686 carries for 4952 yards and 70 touchdowns, while also adding 102 receptions for 1185 yards and another 8 touchdowns. The most notable stat is Etienne amassed a whopping 7.2 yards per carry.

Pros:

  • Burst
  • Explosiveness
  • Accepting contact
  • Maintaining balance
  • Vision
  • Catching-comfortability
  • Home Run Ability
  • Decision Making
  • Knee Bend
  • Second gear- Hits hole and goes
  • Anticipation
  • Quick Feet
  • Great route tree for a RB

Cons:

  • Frame may be maxed
  • Interesting Ball carrying- not necessarily bad but its different
  • Pass Pro
  • Could struggle with breaking tackles at the next level
  • Patience

Description: Travis Etienne has wildly efficient production, and to pair has efficient traits. The best thing about Etienne is his lack of red flags, yes he has had some consistency issues however overall his game is very fluent. Truth be told Etienne is one of the most solid running back prospects in years, all of his issues are coachable, his biggest issue- the value of his position in today’s NFL. If Etienne played any other position he may be a top 5 pick in this draft. He is a complete prospect with an immensely high ceiling to pair with a high and stable floor.

NFL Comparison: Jamaal Charles
Etienne and Charles both share main qualities about them, size, burst, and home run ability. I think Charles is Etienne’s day one impact with the ability to run in-between the tackles at a higher more efficient rate.

Grade: 1st round. Not only is he my RB1, he is the only running back I believe merits a 1st round pick this year. He could fall out of the first because of the positional value however I don’t see that happening. Etienne should and more than likely will find a home late in the first round.
