Looking for value at the Tight End position this season? Well, honestly who isn’t? The position is extremely top heavy in 2020 with it hard to even rank a top 10. At this point, and in redraft terms, I would pencil them in as Kittle, Kelce, Andrews, Ertz, Waller, Henry, Hooper, Engram, Higbee, and Fant. Last season my redraft and bestball targets were Andrews and Waller since they could be had in much later rounds compared to the bigger names. This season I do not think that will play out any differently. So, who is the target in 2020?

Behold the fashionably late to fantasy relevance in 2019 – Kaden Smith, TE, New York Giants. I know, but wait asshole – how the hell can he be relevant if he plays for the same team as Evan Engram? Well, that is based solely on the fact that I believe Engram is on the block. He lacks availability and is a poor blocker, and that is before you take a deeper dive in to Kaden’s 2019 contributions.

At 6’5’’ and 250lbs he is a large target and should his ability to produce in 2019. In fact, Kaden got his first reps in week 10 of last season posting a pedestrian line of 1-1-1-0 (1 target – 1 catch – 1 yard – 0 TDs) but was on the field for 57% of the offensive snaps. That percentage only grew and maintained over weeks 12 through 17. In fact, he posted snap percentages of 98%, 91%, 96%, 100%, 100%, and 100% over those weeks.

I get it – he is a good blocker and isn’t the athlete that Engram is. Well, he sure has a good set of hands that are exemplified by his catch percentage of 74%. He amassed 8 or more targets in 3 of the last 5 contest. Most impressive is his redzone usage. Granted this is a limited sample, he converted 5 of 6 rezone targets for 3 TDs. This is where the value lies! He has rapport with Danny Dimes, is effective at converting targets, and the redzone usage is ideal.

I have done two Superflex TE Premium PPR dynasty startups and have seen Kaden Smith go in the late teens which is well excellent value for a potential top 12 TE. Another that draws some interest for me at the moment is Blake Jarwin and if you want go for a deeper sleeper – here are two – Dan Arnold (AZ) and Kahale Warring (TX). Now, who you got?
