Odell Beckham was being smothered by CB Marlon Humphrey on Sunday afternoon. Beckham was clearly frustrated on the sideline despite his team’s lead, and after a closer look, he had good reason to be. Browns Head Coach Freddie Kitchens said there may have been some foul play on Marlon Humphrey’s part of the scuffle.
“I saw what you saw, He was getting choked on the ground. They get away with that because it’s Odell. I’m going to be on the phone with Al (Riveron) when I get on the bus.” Kitchens told the press.
Al Riveron is the senior vice president of officiating for the NFL.
Referee Shawn Hochuli told ESPN “We didn’t see anything on the field that rose to the level of a disqualifying foul, when New York looked at it, they didn’t see anything either, that rose to the level of a qualifying foul.”
Odell Beckham had a career low of two catches for 20 yards. “It’s hot out there. We’re just competing, I’m just upset that I lost my earring.” Beckham said on the scuffles and the reason for his frustation.
Humphrey did apologize to Beckham after the game, and told the associated press; “It’s not really the brand of football I want to represent, the whistle blows, it has to be over with.”
A tough game early on, led to a Browns landslide victory. The run game was key for the Browns as Nick Chubb rushed for 165 yards and 3 touchdowns. The Browns have to wonder if this is the new key to success for their franchise going forward. Interesting week for the AFC North to say the least. The Browns have the 49ers next week as they try to stay atop the division.
